Tours

Poniklá is the only place in the world where the traditional craft of glass bead blowing has been preserved to the present day. The first glass bead blowing workshops in Poniklá dateback to the late 19th century. Often, entire families made their living through glass bead blowing. The process of blowing beads and manufacturing ornaments has changed very little since then. At Rautis, you can see the entire production process: how beads are blown through glass tubes, silver coated, dyed and cut, and finally assembled into ornaments. The entire manufacturing process is done by hand. During the tour you will learn how each bead is worked on by at least six pair of hands before it becomes part of an ornament.

There’s more to your visit

Tours for schools

Tours for schools

Production facility tours for school groups. Legend has it that in ancient times, Krakonoš the Giant helped poor mountain people by teaching them how to blow tiny glass beads and thread them into sparkling Christmas ornaments. The time-honoured craft of glass bead blowing is still alive in the Krkonoše Mountains today. We invite you to come and learn about it!

Hobby sets for schools

We have large creative hobby sets specifically designed for schools and other educational institutions that include enough glass beads to make 50 ornaments. With these sets, children can try out this time-honoured Krkonoše Mountains craft and make their own ornament in the classroom.

For companies

The multifaceted nature of glass bead ornaments is beautiful. We can create customized company gifts of glass bead ornaments for you, organize a workshop where you can try threading an ornament yourself or offer finished products for resale. We also rent a cross-section of our collections to museums and galleries for Christmas exhibitions.

About Rautis

Rautis, our family firm, is the last company in the world preserving and developing the traditional craft of glass bead blowing. The unique technology of glass bead blowing and producing glass bead Christmas ornaments was inscribed in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2020. We would love to introduce you to our craft!
