Beaded Christmas Ornaments

The production of beaded Christmas ornaments in the village of Poniklá dates back to over hundred years. Beaded ornaments were originally used to make bijouterie but when decorating Christmas trees became fashion by the end of 19th century, poor glassmakers started to string beads on a thin wire and create miniature imitations of things they saw around them, such as little bead baskets, fans, jugs, airplanes, locomotives, prams or spiders and of course stars. In 1920s and 1930s the beaded ornaments enjoyed the highest popularity and were exported worldwide.
